ZENFONE, the powerful smartphone lineup by ASUS in the market is quite a success for the company as it somewhat changed the company’s image as only computer motherboard manufacturer and hardware creator. ZENFONE when launched 1st got all the attentions because of the intel inside badge at the back, stunning front panel, class leading features and very attractive and competitive price tag. ASUS’s strategy of selling their devices through Flipkart has seemed to have worked but has still fallen short of the other competitors like Motorola in this 10k to 15k price bracket. With each and every product Asus is trying to focus on improving one by one feature. Like the last time with ZENFONE Zoom they tried to lure the camera and photography enthusiasts, but with this latest ZENFONE MAX they are trying to capture a major chunk of smartphone buyers who are battery conscious and also craves to have a strong processor for multi-tasking. Let’s review this device in detail.

ZENFONE MAX carries forward a very simplistic design and has an impression of all the previous ZENFONE siblings. It has an identical front panel with stunning, reflecting shiny bottom and an all black display. The back panel is now removable and the volume buttons have now shifted to the side and not at the back. In all it’s a minimalistic design language with certain cons such as fake leather feel plastic back panel and some shiny bit. But overall it’s a simple and sober design as even Camera, flash and speaker are all placed in a single line at the back. Inspite of having all the pros and cons this device has a lot to offer at this price tag as far design front is concerned. It is not too heavy as it was expected because of its gigantic battery and provides a firm hold of the phone.
HARDWARE & PERFORMANCE:- On this front also ASUS has faired well as this device is bolstered up with snapdragon 615 processor with the configuration option of 2GB AND 3GB RAM and an expandable memory up to 64GB allowing the device to perform high-end manoeuvres hassle free and without being worried about the memory. The device also comes with the OTG cable which allows you to charge your other device by using this device’s battery as a powerhouse. The display offers the 720p resolution which is quite sufficient at this price tag and at such a big 5.5 inch TFT display.Though snapdragon 615 is a good processor, it has a history of heating up so time will tell about this device and the heating problem.
This one is the USP of this device as this smartphone is geared up with massive 5000 mAh battery which gives you an astonishing standby time up to 12 days and you can even charge your other devices using the OTG cable provided in he box. However, the charger which comes in the box feels underpowered as it could take a lot of time to charge your 5000 mAh gigantic battery. This battery s really superb and allows you to run your apps and other tasks without being worried.
ZENFONE MAX houses a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front. These two cameras are worth at this price tag of Rs.9999 and offers manual mode as well. The camera is pretty responsive with autofocus within a second and a good LED flash, however, the picture quality could have been better as compared to the others such as MOTO G plus in this segment. The camera offers loads of features and functionalities and photography lovers would find it better. The camera hump is descent and won’t cause too much of friction at the back which then ultimately causes colour erosion and hampers the design.
This device comes with the latest android marshmallow 6.0.1 and at the price tag of under 10k it’s really great. The Zen UI compliments the device and offers a greater usability. It would be a matter of curiosity to see whether google is going to role down the further updates but the marshmallow functions pretty well wit this device.
At the price tag of 8999 and 9999 this device has actually a lot to offer than expected. However with certain cons such as lack of fingerprint scanner and less as compared to other competitors is what ASUS is going to face in the future. Overall it is a decent offering from ASUS with a great processor, phenomenal battery life, and a very attractive price tag. It’s a good choice however if possible go for MOTO G plus with a slightly higher price but great things to offer.
