Samsung earlier released a VR headset known as the Gear VR in partnership with Oculus however if sources are to be believed, Samsung is working towards the development of another VR but this time an independent one. This VR under development would not need to be connected to any smartphone which means you would be able to use it independently. A continuous connection to the handset would not be a requirement.

The VR would support gesture and hand tracking along with positional tracking, a feature that is just supported by HTC Vive and Oculus Rift as of now. Users would be able to walk around as in a virtual world. There is not a word on whether the device would be completely wireless or not and also the sources mention that there is going to be a few years before we could see this device coming out from Samsung.

There are a couple of things to be considered regarding this VR, if Samsung produces such a VR before HTC or Oculus then it definitely would be a win for the company and it would make it stand on the top in the leaderboard. However, this would also bring a turning point in the company’s relationship with Oculus. The year 2016 is going to be a crucial one for the VR headsets and Samsung already seems to be pretty confident about the potential of its plans in the segment.
